The Next Step comprises of Samantha Solomons, Gavin Barry, Anthony van der Poel and David van Schoor. Each one brings a different dimension to the group and as a unit they become one when their voices blend in harmony.

The group came together in May last year and was the brainchild of entrepreneur, Simon Balie who embodies a deep passion for music.Balie is a self employed successful business man who owns a group of companies.He observed a few singers whilst visiting various clubs for a karaoke competition that was sponsored by his company when an idea sparked.He approached four of the singers with the proposal of forming a group and after arranging a practice session to evaluate their potential, The Next Step was formed.

They started out doing cabarets at various clubs and eventually recorded a CD.Growing up in Bonteheuwel on the Cape Flats with guys like Jerry Watt of The Rockets, Balie was always exposed to music. He approached his childhood friend to produce and record the groups debut CD at The Rockets studio.The decision to record a CD of classics featuring Disco medleys and sentimental favourites has expeditiously brought the group into the fold of the Cape music scene. Some of the songs on the album have proven to be floor fillers in clubs around Cape Town.
